Request an Animal Services Officer

Memphis Animal Services responds to requests for animal control within the City of Memphis only.

Dogs

If this is an emergency affecting the safety of a person, please call 911. To report a pet in need of immediate medical care or rescue, a pet that poses a threat to public safety, animal cruelty, or a dog bite, please call 901-545-COPS, the police non-emergency line. Memphis Animal Services’ calls for service are dispatched through MPD’s system. We will need to know the address where the animal is located as well as what your concern is.

If it’s an owned dog running loose and you know where it lives, be sure to tell the dispatcher that. Data shows that most dogs are found 0.4 miles from their home. Our officers would like to take the dog home and work with with the dog owner to help keep their dog contained.

Memphis Animal Services does not respond to barking dog complaints, but you would call the same number (901-545-COPS) to report it to the police.

Cats

Please note: Cats have the legal right to roam in the City of Memphis. It is for this reason that we do not respond to complaints about loose cats unless they are sick or injured.

Wildlife

Memphis Animal Services is only legally authorized to provide humane euthanasia for sick/injured wildlife. All other wildlife concerns should be directed to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency or a private wildlife management company.

Other Animals

To report another type of animal (livestock, small animals, or exotics) in need of immediate medical care or rescue, an animal that poses a threat to public safety, or animal cruelty, please call 901-545-COPS, the police non-emergency line. Memphis Animal Services’ calls for service are dispatched through MPD’s system. We will need to know the address where the animal is located as well as what your concern is.
