Memphis Animal Services Reopens on February 4th

Memphis Animal Services will reopen to the public on Tuesday, February 4th,
at 1 p.m. for dog adoptions, rescue pulls, and foster placements. While visitors are welcome again, the shelter remains closed to dog intake. Animal Control will continue responding to cases involving sick, injured, or dangerous dogs. Cat intakes and adoptions resumed last week.

To fully resume dog intake, we need to reduce our dog population by 150 by Sunday. Every adoption and foster placement helps create space for more animals in need and brings us closer to that goal.

As we take this next step toward full operations, we’ve implemented extra safety measures to protect both visitors and animals. The shelter will operate with three distinct groups:
  1. Dogs that were exposed but tested healthy and are cleared for adoption.
  2. Dogs that were never exposed and are also cleared for adoption.
  3. Dogs that are awaiting test results and are NOT yet available for adoption.

Hand sanitizer will be available in each kennel room, and visitors will be asked to sanitize between interactions. Staff will be on hand to assist and ensure all safety protocols are followed.

Anyone interested in adopting, fostering, or rescuing can visit the shelter starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday. If you have any questions, please email [email protected] or call 901-636-1416.

Memphis Animal Services appreciates the community’s support and looks forward to helping more pets find homes.
