Memphis Animal Services Launches Project Pawtect to Strengthen Community Pet Health

Memphis, Tenn. | August 28, 2025

Memphis Animal Services (MAS) is launching Project Pawtect, a new initiative aimed at improving community pet health and reducing strays by bringing essential resources directly into Memphis neighborhoods. The program will focus on reuniting loose dogs with their families while making vaccinations and microchips more accessible, keeping pets healthy, safe, and connected to the people who love them. Stray pets will also be brought to safety at MAS.

In partnership with All 4s Rescue League, Project Pawtect combines neighborhood outreach with pop-up vaccine and microchip clinics at trusted community gathering spots such as churches, community centers, and vacant lots.

Project Pawtect is about meeting people where they are and providing resources that make it easier to care for pets,” said MAS Director Suzy Hollenbach. “When more pets are vaccinated and microchipped, our whole community benefits.

How Project Pawtect Works

  • Neighborhood Outreach: Prior to each event, MAS will send mailers and post signs in the specific neighborhood where services will be offered.
  • Accessible Clinics: Each pop-up event will provide approximately 100–150 vaccinations and microchips at no cost to residents.
  • Community Collaboration: Working alongside neighborhood partners makes it easier for pet owners to access critical resources.
  • Ongoing Commitment: Events will take place about twice a month in different neighborhoods, in addition to MAS’s larger citywide vaccine clinics.

Vaccines will be administered by a veterinarian and All 4s volunteers, while MAS will provide microchips. This collaboration ensures pets receive vital care while allowing MAS to focus on outreach and community engagement.

MAS will share updates after each event to highlight the impact of Project Pawtect and keep the community informed about future opportunities.
