As Memphis’s only open-intake municipal shelter, Memphis Animal Services is here for every pet and every person who needs us. Each year, we care for 8,000 to 10,000 animals—providing safety, medical care, and second chances. Our team works across every neighborhood, offering programs and support designed to keep pets with their families and out of crisis. We’re building a Memphis that’s more compassionate, more connected, and safer for everyone.

At Memphis Animal Services, our mission is to create a safe, compassionate community for both pets and people. We work to keep pets with the families who love them, offer proactive support that prevents crisis, and provide lifesaving care to every animal who enters our shelter.
Our Goals
We envision a Memphis where every resident—human or animal—is safe, supported, and informed. Through expanded education, increased access to services, and community involvement, we aim to reduce intake, strengthen families, and ensure that every pet is cared for, protected, and deeply loved.
