Memphis Animal Services: Operational Updates & Safety Protocols

While Memphis Animal Services remains closed to the public and general intake, we want to reassure everyone that we are still working hard behind the scenes to provide the best care for our animals and continue essential services for the community. Below are important updates on our ongoing operations and safety protocols.

Health & Safety Protocols

The health and safety of our animals remain our top priority. We are taking extra precautions to ensure animals are healthy before they leave the facility. Our strict testing process includes:

  • PCR Testing: This test determines if the animal is actively shedding the virus.
  • Antibody Testing: This test checks if the animal has protective antibodies to fight against the virus.

If a dog successfully passes the testing process, it can be adopted, fostered, or pulled by rescue. Dogs that test negative for the virus but do not have protective antibodies can be placed in foster care. These dogs must be quarantined and tested every two weeks, receiving booster shots until their antibodies reach protective levels

Adoptions & Owner Reclaims

We are still processing adoptions, reclaims, and fostering for both cats and dogs! Whether you are interested in adopting a pet, reclaiming your pet, or becoming a foster, the process is simple. Just call us at 901-636-1416 or email MAS at [email protected] with the pet’s information and the day you would like to visit. We will provide you with a time window for your visit.

Emergency Intake Operations
Memphis Animal Services is currently operating under Emergency Intake Protocols. These protocols are essential for controlling and eliminating the outbreak to ensure a safe environment for all animals. To

prevent the spread of disease, we can only accept animals that meet specific criteria requiring immediate attention under exigent circumstances:

  • Dangerous or Aggressive Dogs: Posing a risk to public safety (evidenced by Animal Control Officer observation or bite photos).
  • Sick or Injured Dogs: Requiring immediate medical care.
  • Dogs in Immediate Danger: Facing environmental hazards or life-threatening situations.

Emergency intake restrictions will be lifted as soon as it is safe to do so.

Please understand this temporary closure was ordered by local officials, and our officers do not have the authority to bring in animals that do not meet these criteria.

Thank You for Your Patience & Support

We appreciate your patience and support during this time. Our team is dedicated to providing the best care for our animals and ensuring their safety throughout this process. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
